According to our minister, our choice for a wedding text was most unusual! But this text spoke to us on so many levels. I’ve included a few verses from it to talk about today.
Paul wrote in 1 Peter 1:21-25, that “Through him you have come to trust in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are set on God. Now that you have purified your souls by your obedience to the truth so that you have genuine mutual love, love one another deeply from the heart. You have been born anew, not of perishable, but of imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God.”
Renewal and resurgence are a constant theme in any Christian’s life. Rather than being a static endeavor, Christ calls us into active participation of life. This includes the joyous occasions, along with the difficult trials of everyday life. When we follow Christ, we learn how to love, to love intensely, and thereby, we experience this most powerful form of giving.
The process of Christ-like molding in each of our lives becomes a thirst for those that follow Christ. This condition revolves around an environment of love of the Lord and a desire to become better and better servants of His desires.
Lord, please fashion us into loving disciples, following Christ’s teachings. Teach us to love deeply, and serve you only. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
