The Lord’s Voice

I’ve been reworking a children’s book.  As part of that, I’ve picked up an absorbing read:  Fearfully and Wonderfully:  The Marvel of Bearing God’s Image, by Dr. Paul Brand and Philip Yancey.  The authors talk about “spiritual fuel”-the need to “find a place of quietness to listen to the still, small voice for guidance of my life”.  This is a voice that is bigger than oneself.  Pausing to hear this voice only takes a little conscious thought throughout the day.

Try some quiet reflection.  In John 10, Jesus tells us that he is “the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me-just as the Father knows me and I know the Father…They too will listen to my voice…”  As the good shepherd, Jesus’ voice dwells with all of us.  We just need to listen.

“Spiritual fuel–the time you take to be with the Lord and listen for His voice.    This voice will come to you through all the distractions of the day, or the wonderful quiet of a snippet of your time.  The Lord will come calling.  All you need to do is listen.

Almighty shepherd, let us always be open to hearing your wonderful voice.  Help us grow into the person you desire us to be.  Amen.
