Psalm 148 and the Beauty of Spring

The beauty of spring is terrific.  Spring is my personal favorite season because of the promise of new life that it heralds.  It is a tremendous season that brings the reality of God’s kingdom to me!  I’ve attached these terrific pictures; one of a robin’s nest on a building, and the other, buds of blossoms, with the light green color of leaves, on our crab apple tree-both wonderful signs of new birth.

As one of the lectionary readings for the week, Psalm 148 is a Psalm of Praise.  How suiting for this beautiful season.  As spring continues, it’s only right to praise the Lord for all the beautiful changes in the outside air and environment.  “The psalmist calls all of creation-non-living and living-to join together in praising the Lord” (Mary Simonson Clark).  The psalm reminds us of God’s creation as He declared it “very good” (Genesis 1:31).  As humans, we are called to care for this.

Psalm 148 promises that “the Lord is righteous in all his ways and loving toward all he has made.”  It continues by affirming that “the Lord is near to all who call on him”.  God is readily available to us when we reach out to him in praise or counsel.

How right to praise the Lord during this intensely beautiful season, with its promise of hope and new life.  Just this week, our neighborhood welcomed a new baby boy, Theodore Daniel.  What marvelous miracles spring brings to us!

Lord, let us relish your season, and praise you in this wonderful season of spring.  Amen.

  2. What a wonderful message, Sarah. Perfect timing on this beautiful day. So exciting to see new life and plant tomatoes and flowers, then wait for the rain and see God’s miracles at work.

    Good to see you!
