Love is the Greatest Blessing

We’re all products of our experiences.  Who hasn’t felt that sometimes God has given us more than we can handle? – like the year that I spent most of my time sick in bed.  It was so disheartening – why was this happening?  I struggled with God.  In Matthew, Jesus told me that the Lord was looking after me, but sometimes it just didn’t seem like it.

Psalm 41 tells us that the Lord will sustain us and restore us from our illnesses.  Sometimes we just have to clutch onto the hope and faith that things will get better.

Hippocrates said that “a wise man should consider that health is the greatest of human blessings”.  While health is truly a tremendous blessing, surely the greatest blessing is love.  Jesus told us that the love of God and neighbors are the most important commandments.

During this time of Lent, let’s trust that God will see us through our troubles and give us the grit to persevere.  What a great time to have truthful, rich conversations with God – those that are in your heart.  Even though I struggled, I trusted that God would eventually see me through my illness.  I was elated when the physicians discovered the answer to my problem.  Praise God for that!
